About Us
More Than Coffee. A Way To See People.
At In My Father’s Kitchen, we believe no one should feel invisible.
Our coffee store is an extension of that belief. Every bag of coffee gives you a simple way to enjoy something you love while supporting the people and work at the heart of In My Father’s Kitchen (IMFK).
We are a faith-based organization in Syracuse dedicated to walking alongside people experiencing homelessness and helping them find dignity, hope, stability, and a path forward.
Why We Started
In My Father’s Kitchen was founded in September 2011 by John and Leigh-Ann Tumino after a life-changing encounter with a man experiencing homelessness near Destiny USA.
John noticed the man standing with a cardboard sign, yet people around him seemed to look right through him. In that moment, John felt a simple calling: feed him.
That man was named Tim.
After giving him a meal, John told him, “Tim, you are not invisible.” Tim responded by sharing that he felt like nobody saw him.
That encounter changed John’s life — and became the beginning of In My Father’s Kitchen.
What started with a meal and a conversation grew into a mission built around something much deeper: seeing people, listening to their stories, building relationships, and walking alongside them.
What We Do
We do more than provide food and necessities.
Through direct street outreach, our team builds genuine relationships with people experiencing homelessness and works alongside them through the challenges they face.
We provide food, material support, medical assistance, advocacy, and connections to resources. We may help someone get to an appointment, access addiction or mental health support, navigate the housing process, or simply have someone there who will listen.
Our work is about more than connecting people to services. It is about standing with them.
Creating Paths Forward
Our work continues beyond the streets through programs designed to create opportunities for stability, growth, and a new direction.
Through Hire Ground, we help create pathways toward employment and personal development.
Through our Women’s Program, we provide support and encouragement to women facing difficult circumstances.
And through ongoing street outreach, we continue meeting people where they are — building trust one relationship at a time.
Our Vision
We envision a world free from chronic homelessness, where individuals are fed, sheltered in safe housing, and free from strongholds that keep them from moving forward.
We believe lasting change begins with relationship.
What We Believe
We Build Trust
We develop trust by building relationships that bring value and dignity to the people we encounter.
We Offer A Hand Up
We honor those we serve by offering a hand up, not a handout — encouraging people toward opportunity, independence, and positive change.
We Build Hope
We believe hope can foster positive change. Sometimes it begins with something as simple as being seen, heard, and treated with dignity.
We Lead With Dignity
We continually challenge and educate ourselves and our community to promote a culture of dignity and respect for those we serve.
Coffee With A Purpose
Our coffee gives you another way to be part of the story.
Whether you're starting your morning, sharing a cup with someone, or simply enjoying your favorite roast, your purchase helps support the mission of In My Father’s Kitchen.
Our New Horizons blend represents exactly what we hope to see for the people we serve — a new direction, new opportunities, and the possibility of a brighter tomorrow.
So when you buy a bag of coffee, you're doing more than bringing great coffee home.
- You're helping us continue to show up.
- To listen.
- To build relationships.
- To remind people that they are seen.
- And to walk alongside them as they move toward a new horizon.
